MAMORU SHIMOKOCHI
Creative Director / Partner

Mamoru Shimokochi is Partner and Creative Director of Shimokochi-Reeves. During his more than 30-year design career, Mamoru Shimokochi has created some of the most powerful and recognizable identities of the past three decades.

A native of Japan, Mamoru relocated to the US to study graphic design at Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles. His extraordinary aptitude for design quickly earned him a scholarship and an interview with the internationally acclaimed Saul Bass. In 1970 he graduated with a B.F.A. and honors.

As Senior Designer at Saul Bass & Associates, Mamoru created the well known identities: United Airlines, United Way, California Cheese, and Avery International. In addition, he designed the packaging for Quaker Oats Instant Oatmeal, Lawry’s, Laura Scudder’s and AT&T, among others.

In 1985, Mamoru joined with Anne Reeves to establish Shimokochi-Reeves. The combination of Mamoru’s creative passion with Anne’s market-driven sense of purpose resulted in a powerful visual branding partnership that has been serving clients in the U.S. and abroad for 20 years.

Mamoru has taught design at Art Center, Otis Parsons, and has guest lectured at UCLA and in Japan. He is the recipient of numerous awards, both national and international, and the firm’s work is featured in publications worldwide.
